Lily Neill is recognized as “…part of the new Harp revolution extolling aspects of harp music never previously heard? (John O’Regan, Irish Music Magazine, June 2005). She performs both her original compositions and the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland on the lever harp and developed her musical style from seisiún playing, an uncommon route for harp players, utilizing techniques from other instruments. Her music is both rich in tradition yet uniquely her own. Both her playing and the music that she writes draw from a diverse range of styles and her interpretations are inspired by her experiences working with artists from many different genres and backgrounds. Lily has won numerous honors, scholarships and awards for her harp playing, including first place as well as additional awards of distinction at the U.S. National Scottish Harp Competition for four consecutive years and a medal at the All-Ireland Harp Competition. More recently, she was named LiveIreland.com’s “2006 New Female Artist of the Year.?
“Without Words,? Lily's debut solo album, has garnered an impressive array of reviews since its release. “Hot Press,? Ireland’s essential guide to music, gives “Without Words? an 8 out of 10 and writes of Neill: “The CD reveals her to be far more than the superb technician she undoubtedly is.…? Sweden’s “Hallandsposten? gave it a 4 out of 5 and calls Lily’s music, “a thrilling journey across the Irish tradition.? America’s “Celtic Beat? writes: “Without Words could only better be entitled Beyond Words. One word for this CD is exquisite. …this music goes far beyond simply artistry of execution and aesthetics, for it reaches out and entices you into Lily Neill’s world.?
