Gerry hits his tee shot way left into some thick bushes and therefore decides to play a provisional ball, which lands in the rough on the left hand side of the fairway. Gerry finds his original ball within 3 minutes however it is deep within the bushes and clearly unplayable. His lateral and back on the line relief options are equally impractical so he decides his only option would be to return to his previous place played. Having already played his provisional from the teeing area and to ensure he doesn't delay play any further, he plays his provisional ball from where it was lying and counts that as his 4th stroke. Is this permitted?
