Genetic gains: How artificial reproduction can accelerate production in your livestock
Emma Bowman is an Advisor and Technician of sheep artificial reproduction at Genstock. Emma is passionate about the sheep industry, having grown up on Uardry Merino Stud near Hay, where her father was the manager for almost 20 years. This instilled a passion for ag in Emma and in particular, sheep genetics, which led to her working in the industry and specialising in sheep reproduction.
In this episode, Emma explains the process of artificial insemination (AI), and how farmers in the Central West are increasingly turning to artificial breeding services to fine-tune their livestock reproduction. She'll also break down the pros and cons of artificial reproduction, and share how farmers can maximise their genetic gain and accelerate production in their livestock system.
Local Land Services Mixed Farming Officer, Rohan Leach, sat down with his good mate Emma for this chat, one relaxed Sunday afternoon in Dubbo.
