7 Things You Can Say When Confronted with Disrespect:
- It sounds like you didn’t intend to hurt me but this is how I feel.
- If you start yelling at me and calling me names, I will leave and disengage from the conversation.
- I can’t continue this conversation anymore because I am not comfortable with how you are speaking to me.
- I’m not okay with put downs or mean comments that are excused as jokes. It isn’t funny.
- This way of discussing the issue isn’t working for me.
- Let’s pause this conversation and come back to it when we have had time to calm down.
- That’s not how I see it. I am not going to argue about it anymore.
