Cory Shinohara's journey to being a Division I gymnast at the University of North Carolina has been anything but a straight line. Born in Japan to a Japanese father and Chinese mother, Shinohara grew up in small-town Wilmington, Mass., hardly a hot bed of high level gymnastics. Over her career, Shinohara has been able to travel to Japan to participate in training with the Japanese National Team, overcome three separate devastating injuries, and never gotten burnt out with the sport. She credits her parents, who always reminded her to have a life outside of gymnastics, for her continued passion and dedication to the sport.
