The double homicide of an engaged couple remained unresolved for over ten years, allowing a suspect to remain at large until he committed another murder.
Lindsay Cutshall, aged 22, and Jason Allen, aged 26, were avid outdoor enthusiasts planning to marry in September 2004. Prior to their wedding, they chose to spend the summer in El Dorado County, California, where they both served as counselors at the Rock-N-Water Christian camp in Coloma.
Cutshall was raised in Fresno, Ohio, where she was homeschooled and brought up in the Christian faith by her parents, Chris and Kathy Cutshall. Mr. Cutshall expressed that both parents were pleased and proud of Lindsay's long-held dream of becoming a missionary since her childhood.
Cutshall completed her studies in 2003 and subsequently traveled approximately 200 miles south to enroll at Appalachian Bible College. During her time there, she engaged in spiritual outreach activities, notably through outdoor pursuits such as whitewater rafting. It was at this institution that she encountered Jason Allen, a former student from western Michigan, who had graduated and returned to assist in guiding the current students.
