This week on EntheoRadio.com we're excited to speak with Steve Beyer, author of "Singing to the Plants: A Guide to Mestizo Shamanism in the Upper Amazon". Steve also previously authored two other great books on the topic of Buddhism. We had the honor of meeting Steve personally at the MAPS conference in San Jose in April, 2010 where we had the opportunity to attend a lecture where Steve was a presenter. We felt instantly that he would be a great person to have on our show because he is so humble and well spoken about his experiences. Steve is a retired attorney who practiced law for 25 years and who has two PhD's. He is also a former professor who taught at Berkeley and University of Wisconsin. Steve currently resides in Chicago and has traveled to the Amazon several times over the past 15 years learning about and experiencing the native culture, medicines, and shamanism of the Upper Amazon. Singing to the Plants sets forth, in accessible form, just what this shamanism is about — what happens at an ayahuasca healing ceremony, how the apprentice shaman forms a spiritual relationship with the healing plant spirits, how sorcerers inflict the harm that the shaman heals, and the ways that plants are used in healing, love magic, and sorcery. - excerpt from Steve's website.
