- Arab-Israeli poet jailed for incitement
Several years ago at the height of the 2015 terror wave in Israel, an Arab-Israeli woman was arrested and charged with inciting violence with her poetry. The prosecution of poet Dareen Tatour quickly became an international incident. And now, following years of litigation, Tatour has just been sentenced to five months in prison, followed by an additional half-year of suspended term.
- Hebrew op-ed calls for violence against LGBTQ+
Today, an op-ed published in an Israeli new website called for similar violence against members of Israel’s LGBTQ+ community. In that case, however, there were no arrests nor charges. The article was pulled from the internet following complaints by activists. The news site’s representatives have since apologized and claim that the article was accidentally uploaded.
