Jordan Palmer, elite QB trainer, talks about his NFL career, how to spot high-potential QBs, and big bro Carson. [Ep. 17]
Jordan Palmer of @QBsummit is a former NFL quarterback whose NFL career was overshadowed by the epic achievements of his brother, Carson Palmer, the former Bengals star. But the Palmer brothers made history. With the Bengals, they were the only brothers to be QBs on the same roster at the same time, and doubled down as the only sibling duo to play in the same game. Palmer's long career as a Journeyman QB which included stints in the Arena League, and four seasons playing alongside his brother seems to have ideally prepared him to be one of the nation's top QB consultants. Listening to Palmer, he sounds like a man with a PhD in Signal Calling. This year, Palmer trained both Drew Lock and Jarrett Stidham for the draft. Both were high-round draft picks. He also trained Tyree Jackson, who signed a free agent deal with The Bills, and is widely considered a steal of post-draft-board signings.
Before Palmer, this episode kicks off with Quincy recounting to Brian stories from his Football Ambassadors trip with Deshaun Watson to Egypt and China. Funny stuff.
At 10:20-Jordan Palmer starts talking with Brian and Quincy
Palmer dropped outstanding insights throughout the conversation, including:
-what traits he looks for in deciding which QBs to train (you'll be surprised to hear how little he talks about physical characteristics)
--Why the signs that tell you the type of dogs that are easy to train provide insights into detecting which QBs are trainable.
-why having Carson as a big brother was mostly a blessing, but also a challenge, especially as he was trying to break into the NFL.
Brian asks Quincy and Jordan to talk about their friendly competition as two of the best and most popular QB trainers in the business. Brian's question leads to a great exchange.
