Connecting an Unplugged Village with Claudia Erickson: Episode 089
Claudia Erickson, the Founder and CEO of Unplugged Village, joins us for episode 089 of the SHIPS podcast! Claudia discusses how technology has the strong capability of pulling us away from our lives. We talk about how villages and communities, on the other hand, have the power to bring people together. Claudia also suggests a unique and different approach to digital wellness; we can't sell the negatives of technology, so we should start where people are at.

Claudia Erickson is a speaker on the topic of reducing tech distractions. She is also the founder of the Unplugged Village, a digital wellness company that helps people spend less time with technology, and more time increasing authentic human connection and community. The Unplugged Village serves as a resource and includes events and businesses that offer engaging opportunities to unplug. Everything from craft and trivia nights, pop up comedy shows to the Unplugged Dining network and a farmer’s market scavenger hunt for kids. Claudia earned her bachelor’s degree in social work and master’s in public health from San Diego State University. She has raised two kids (both digital natives) and has 20 years’ experience working in maternal child health. Claudia believes there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to this issue. She will continue to help people develop a new relationship with technology, to look for innovative ways to make unplugging fun and to show people that it’s not about what you are missing, rather it’s all about what you can gain.
