Testosterone After Prostate Cancer: What Levels Are Safe, and What About Libido?
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a listener question about the safety of taking testosterone supplements after a prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Mistry explains that at one time, urologists mistakenly believed there was a link between testosterone therapy and increased rates of prostate cancer. Now it is widely understood that there is a greater risk of prostate cancer when testosterone levels are abnormally low. What's more, such cancers can be more aggressive than they would be in the general population (men with normal testosterone levels). If you or a loved one are experiencing low testosterone, have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, or would like a second opinion on either/both conditions, NAU Urology Specialists is always happy to help put your mind at ease. We offer the most cutting edge cancer treatment in the industry, including High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, or HIFU--a treatment for prostate cancer that preserves the surrounding tissue and urinary and sexual function to a much greater extent than other common surgical interventions.
