Dr Rachel Duffett, author and researcher has written a book about Combat Stress’ 100-year history. Charting the charity’s progress in medical treatment and occupational therapy to help veterans overcome the trauma of war, the book also gives an insight into society’s evolving attitudes towards military mental health over the century – from the lack of sympathy shown towards veterans of the First World War to the acknowledgement of PTSD experienced by those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
