On this episode: two easy to forget things. The first one because it's something we don't think to do when we normally leave the house. the second one because this should be such common sense that I nearly forgot to include it in these tips to safely hike mountains. I'm talking about having a backup plan and checking the weather.
BACKUPS:
Have you told anyone where you will be? Who will send Search & Rescue after you when you're late in coming back from your hike? It seems such a silly thing to think about. After all, what could possibly happen to you when you're so well prepared? Probably nothing. But that one time that something does happen, you'll thank your lucky stars at least one person knows where you are and what to do when you don't show up when they expect you to.
WEATHER CHECK:
This is such an obvious one that I almost left it out, but I run into too many people who are not prepared or even worse are unaware of the weather they'll be running into on their hike.

When it comes to walking alone in Nature the questions I get asked most, especially by women, is: “Isn't it dangerous to go hiking by yourself? Aren't you scared to be out there alone?”
To be fair, plenty of men have asked the same questions, but more women than men seem to be afraid to go out into Nature on their own.
I see it reflected in the coaching I do as well. On average women seem to be more hesitant to trust in themselves than a lot of men.
Over the years my confidence has grown tremendously through hiking, both with others and solo.
Which is why there now is a podcast about how to safely hike mountains. Because you can use what you take away from it anywhere, whether on a walk or in life.
