Conversations about Sport Karate [Episode 2] feat. Maureen Connolly: ”There’s no excuse to be a bad teacher... it’s remarkable that so much of it still goes on”
Elyse’s Point guest this week is Dr. Maureen Connolly. An outsider to the sport karate community, Connolly is a Professor of Physical Education and Kinesiology. Connolly is an award winning teacher, a practitioner within sport and physical education (with a sport background in gymnastics, dance, and competitive body building) and helps everyone of every ability perform to their best. We discuss what “Pedagogy” is, the link between teaching and coaching, if teachers are born vs. made, experiences with bad teachers, power dynamics with teaching, what is “discipline”, and… how do you know if you’re a good teacher/coach?
