In this edition Chris Kuhlmann and Shaun Griffin provide a context for the gun debate as they explore the truth about gun violence in America, the agenda of the left, and gun statistics. Why does the left seek to ban weapons that are used the least to commit murder or mass shootings?
This episode sets the ground work and the stage for the next episode, the Anatomy of Mass Shootings.
GUN STATISTICS
(research from Pew Research and the Gun Violence Archive
Estimated US population - 330 million
US firearms - Approximately 393 million (about 1.2 guns per person or about 30-40% of households)
According to Pew Research
2020 – (US) 45,222 gun deaths
54% - suicide (not murder)
According to Pew Research, the vast majority of gun incidents are NOT a result of mass shootings.
FBI defines active shooter incidents: “One or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area.”
2020: 38 people – excluding the shooters – died in such incidents
The Gun Violence Archive
Mass shootings: incidents in which four or more people are shot, even if no one was killed (again excluding the shooters).
2020: 513 people died in these incidents
Regardless of the definition being used, fatalities in mass shooting incidents in the U.S. account for a small fraction of all gun murders that occur nationwide each year.
2020
Between 38 and 513 people were killed in mass tragedy events like this.
2020 US Murders (involving firearms) – AR15 vs Handguns
AR15 – 3%
Handguns – 59%
Why are the democrats going after the 3% instead of the 59%?
