The Perfectly Imperfect Journey
Society & Culture
From an early age, Kat Williford loved to create through sewing. She followed that passion into college and found herself a comfortable job with a big name fashion brand. But something didn’t feel quite right and Kat heeded a small whisper inside herself, traveling to Hungary, in part for the adventure and in hopes of finding a more fulfilling path. She got both. And from there a new way to think about fashion was born. Kat designs for everyone, all sizes and abilities. She keeps the planet in mind by being as sustainable as possible and her longer term strategy is to keep things small so she can continue to employ high quality people and provide customization to her customers. Join us this week to hear about Kat’s perfectly imperfect journey to find her mode.
Bio:
Kat Williford is the owner and designer of Pamut Apparel. Kat took a big step out of her comfort zone when she moved to Budapest, Hungary in 2014. After falling out of love with the fashion industry during her stint as a designer at a mall brand, she was feeling directionless and unsure of her place in the fashion industry. She ended up finding fulfillment by returning to the roots of making clothing: dyeing, printing, and sewing in her little Budapest flat. Kat moved back to her hometown of Raleigh, NC in 2017, and she soon came to realize that there was a huge gap in the market for inclusively sized and customized clothing. Over the next few years, Kat worked to evolve Pamut into the brand that it is today. Kat spends most of her days in the Pamut studio with her sheltie puppy, but enjoys plenty of free time away from work thanks to her talented and dedicated team.
