Part 2 of my rant/ hyper fixation on my favourite topic of science, and that is Allergies!
Our seemingly failing immune response, could it really be a way to protect us against worms, toxins, fungi? Or is it an emerging response to the world of hyper hygiene and eating less dirt?
Unforch I yapped too long and there is a part 1 that you may have missed that came out last week! To get some much needed context on what an allergy response is and why we have them at all, to whether or not they were developed as an evolutionary advantage (the jury is still out IMO), we also discussed a few (probably too many) hypothesises, and relevant studies to support the ever expanding field of research (because we keep on getting more allergic!).
This episode we delve a bit deeper into why we have more allergies now and what the research says! More hypothesises are spilled, we thoroughly dissect the microbiome and the potential ramification of over prescription of antibiotics on not only antibiotic resistance and microbiome changes, but on allergies as well! We look at ways that allergens can sneak into the dms (blood stream) and cause emotional damage (sensitization) and even the need for therapy (allergy).
Anyway enjoy our natterings about allergies and hopefully one day we can figure out how to de sensitize (I've tried emotionally and the outlook is grim)…
