Family, we've reached the end of another year, and 2017 was a rough one. We lost a lot of entertainers and performers including Tom Petty (66), Robert Guillaume (89), Roy Halladay (40), Fats Domino (89), Earle Hyman (91), Della Reese (86), Hugh Hefner (91), Frank Vincent (78), Linkin Park's Chester Pennington (41), Soundgarden's Chris Cornell (52) and many others.
Along with play-by-play legend Dick Enberg (82) passing away this week, a major inspiration for the Pay Me No Mind podcast left us this week with the death of Reggie "Combat Jack" Osse - the trailblazing and insightful host of The Combat Jack Show. Combat Jack succumbed to an unbelievably short battle with colon cancer - we go into some of the known details about the ordeal.
Osse, along with his revolving group of co-hosts over the 7-year run of The Combat Jack Show, ressurrected hip hop for me and many others who group up during the genre's Golden Era. I had to say my good-bye to a man I never met, but who showed me so much in the few years that I downloaded, listened to, and tweeted about a show that connected me back to the true greatness of hip hop. #CombatCancer
Finding the usual PMNM variety of guests in the final days before the holidays was a challenge. However, Barbershop Conversations Fred Hawthorne joined the show (at 1:46:40) to discuss LaVar Ball and the announcement of his new JBA basketball league, Sean "Puffy" Combs possiby bidding on the Carolina Panthers and his belief that Vasyl Lomachenko is the greatest boxer doing it right now.
