Rick Hanson – Resilient
Almost every faith on earth has a version of “The Golden Rule”. In essence, it instructs us “to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” In our hectic and challenging world today, most people practice a variation…”I’ll do unto you and owe myself one.” Why is it so easy to extend love, compassion and caring to others and not do the same for ourselves? What events in our lives programmed our brains to react this way and is there a way to reprogram them to extend to ourselves the same loving kindness we extend to others and know that we are worthy to receive it?
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Rick Hanson, says there is a way back to self-love and self-compassion. Rick is a psychologist, a senior fellow of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and a New York Times best-selling author. Available in twenty-six languages Hardwiring Happiness, Buddha’s Brain, Just One Thing and Mother Nurture. An invited speaker at NASA, Oxford and Harvard, he has also taught in meditation centers worldwide. He joins me this week to discuss his latest book, co-authored with his son, Forrest Hanson, called Resilient: How to Grow and Unshakeable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness.
