Dr. Barbara Oakley is an author, speaker, professor, engineer, and adventurer - take a look at her twitter page...she is “a female Indiana Jones.”
Barbara is the author of numerous books two of which Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential (2017) and A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) [2014] have been translated into more than a dozen languages.
Barbara has a cool educational background…
But wait...there's so much more….
She worked as a Russian translator for several fishing seasons on Soviet fishing trawlers in the Bering Sea. Barbara wrote a book about this experience…it's called - Hair of the Dog: Tales from a Russian Trawler.
Her current work focuses on the complex relationship between neuroscience and social behavior.
Barbara is published in outlets as varied as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
Her research has been described as “revolutionary” in the Wall Street Journal.
She and her husband have been married for 33 years and have two daughters and two adopted sons from Kosovo.
So much to learn today. Even though her book, Learning How to Learn is meant for students, it should be read by parents, teachers, and school administrators. The information in her book is extremely valuable for helping kids to make learning easier and more successful.
