All About Jack: A C.S. Lewis Podcast
Religion & Spirituality:Christianity
IN THIS REPEAT: William O'Flaherty is shares about Lewis's life and books in an interview done by John Losh.
----more----
Recently (Nov. 2018) I was a guest on a local radio show host by John Losh that is based near Kansas City. On his weekly show, called Fulfill Your Ministry, he interviewed me about C.S. Lewis in general, while also briefly talking about my books. As noted in the recorded introduction, I did not know what John's questions would be, nor did I know what quotes believed to be by Lewis he would share. I initially missed one fake Lewis quote, but realized it during the station break and corrected the oversight. However, he shared the following quotation, and I didn't realize while we were recording that it was a paraphrase of Lewis, and actually not by Lewis:
"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'"
The following is the CORRECT quotation:
“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”
― C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
Of course, some may say (and I talk about this more in my book, The Misquotable C.S. Lewis) that there are only a few minor changes. I count nine changes (seven are word changes) out of twenty-four elements; so you could say 62.5% of it is a Lewis quote!
