On today's episode we had the pleasure of having Gold Medal Olympian and American Curler John Landsteiner on the show with us. John jokingly talks about how he slowly transitioned from religion classes to full time Curling at the age of 8. And how he became known as "The Ringer" on his fathers Curling Club Team as a young kid. How when he got to college in Duluth he hit an age where he had to go Pro. And then his amazing ride to two olympics, One Gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics, Bronze Medal at Basel, and 4 US Men's Championships. The interesting story about how John's teammate John Schuster was dropped from the United States Curling Association High Performance Program and decided to create his own team "The Rejects" which included fellow HPP cut Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner who they convinced to come out of retirement and Tyler George who couldn't attend the HPP combine due to work. The cool part of this story is The Rejects dusted both HPP teams in the 2015 National Championships and then were added to the High Performance Program in 2016. Then 2018 Winter Olympics when they brought USA home the first ever Gold Medal in the sport of Curling. John discusses what the olympics experience was like and he could see why single athletes would love it. As well as being on talk shows and touring the USA, kissing babies and shaking hands. Oh and that time he lost his Ring (the one that goes with his Gold Medal) on the beach in California when he went on a late night swim with the boys. And how a man on the beach randomly found it and returned it back to him 2 weeks later. Very cool story. A must listen!
