The invitation kills any sort of call to action you (as the speaker) want to put at the end of your sermon. Your call to action has already been assigned: be baptized or repent. Anything you say right before that invitation has its impact stunted by the offering of the invitation.

One other myth I have run into is people will make baptism into a purely spiritual act as in 1pet 3:21 they say Peter is talking about a spiritual baptism not the physical act.

“How to be A Better Bible Student” — I very much enjoyed this episode! Have never met brother Denny, but appreciate him and each of you from afar. God speed!

I think there are a lot of brethren that are terrified to discuss anything other than status quo people will brand them a heretic. I think many are even afraid to ask questions for fear of being ridiculed for not knowing.

Great lesson. I always had the thought when I was young that if I died without asking for forgiveness I was going to hell. That is very much what was taught to me in the church. As I got older and had more conversations with those in the denominational world and listened to how much they rely on God’s grace I realized that I had heard very few lessons on grace all my life. So through my own studies have come to the same idea that you guys discussed.
