I don’t think a person enrolled in college 500 miles away necessarily eliminates them. He could have skipped a day and driven anywhere, done anything, especially realizing he’s not likely to be connected.

I have to admit, because of severe betrayals in my past I would be hesitant to give over my financial account information. Even if I had someone in my life I trusted, I would be anxious about someone breaking into my office and stealing this folder. Furthermore, I don’t know about login information because once I set up my messaging accounts on my phone I never had to log in after that.
