Thank you for offering this! I am a 50 year old Mexican American woman who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. A very multicultural area. It seems that English has become the 2nd language today. My father was born in Corrales, Mexico. He and his family of 7 brothers and one sister grew up bilingual. When he married my mom, who is Native(Sioux) American Indian, he vowed that his children would NOT speak Spanish in the home. He thought that they would get further in life by knowing English only. This was back in the late 1960's. Little did he know, he was actually going to make it difficult for us to communicate with our paternal grandparents and other Spanish only speaking relatives and that it would hinder getting a better paying job in the future. Growing up and today, at least once a day, someone attempts to speak Spanish to me, because they assume that (because of the way I look) that I speak Spanish. When I explain that, yes, I'm Mexican, but, no, I don't speak Spanish...they're confused. Sometimes, I explain why...sometimes I don't. Bottom line is...I'm tired of not knowing MY native language...the one that runs through my blood...Spanish. Now, I'm engaged to an awesome man who is also bilingual in Spanish and English. He is doing is best teach me what he can. This is another reason its so important. Lastly, I have 3 awesome little grandsons, ages 2🧒, 5🧒, and 10🧑 who are all bilingual in Spanish and English. If they can learn it...Grandma can. I'm looking forward to listening to all of your lessons from the beginning and checking out the website. Thank you for being here🙏
