It's always referred to as "Luke's Duel With Vader," but really it's "Luke Trains With Vader." Luke trains with Yoda earlier and fails his final test. But after Luke is taught the path to evil and then given an offer of power by Vader, he passes the test by rejecting evil and forfeiting his own life.
