Wait, you guys (Molly and Jason Selvig) are just now discovering that plain facts don’t matter to some people? Oh boy. It means that your standard toolkit won’t work. It means debunking conspiracy theories is ineffective, fact-checking is useless, and the truth is meaningless. Simple education does not work on the willfully ignorant! You have to do the actual hard work of deprogramming these people in order to reach them, which is much more difficult than just reciting facts.

I’m suspicious of the narrative that Trump’s boneheaded and counterproductive actions are going to hurt him with his base. Humans have an incredible capacity to hold on dearly to what they want to believe, facts be damned. He’s not going to lose that much support, and hey-- they are going to cheat! Republicans ”should” take a shellacking, but it might be closer than we think.

Any Democrat who wants to generate actual excitement, meaning donations and volunteering, not just votes, should consider running as an Independent. Especially Kamala Harris and Sherrod Brown. Loyal Dem voters like me feel let down, maybe even betrayed. I would be highly enthused by any candidate who says ”eff yoo” to the party.
