There are a number of 1960s war (WW2) movies where no apparent attempt has been made to give the female actors period hair. Was it thought unnecessary? Or just a cost cutting measure? Or a revolt among thespians?
You said there’s only one American in the film, but surely Cartwright-Jones is an American too?
Re-listening, bc the movie was on BBC2 today. The most hilarious thing is when, after setting up all the Broadsword/Danny Boy stuff, Michael Hordern’s character suddenly starts using names *in clear* during one of the radio calls!
Love this podcast. Genuine moments where I find myself laughing along with her guys.
Well done for sharing the real story of what happened at the Kwai POW camp. As you say, even more remarkable.
Great eposide, learnt lots about this great film.
Wow, you missed out almost all the best bits about this film, especially the humour. And how can you watch it several times and not spot CHRISTOPHER LEE?!
I love this film! My Dad was merchant navy & was 16 on 17/12/39,at which point he’d been at sea for 2 years. It’s also (perhaps inappropriately? I don’t think so) very funny. Can’t imagine how you can have watched it though & still mispronounce Graf Spee & Montevideo?!
My late husband would insist the helicopter is anachronistic. Comments?
