Enjoyed this podcast very much. I’m a little older than the guest. I became ”born again” in the early 1980s in my mid-teens. I rode the wave of the Moral Majority and Focus on the Family. Yet it never sat comfortably with me. The theological questions were many and the answers few or insufficient. The stench of the politics added insult to injury. And I declared my agnosticism in 1986, after having spent my first year of college at Liberty University - another show-stopper.
I guess Fuller theologian Wagner missed the memo about the rapture being imminent in the 1980s. Hal Lindsay’s ”The Late Great Planet Earth,” which was a trendy best seller in evangelical circles. How six letters in each part of Reagan’s full name was a sign, etc. So why is a ”new apostolic movement” even necessary in the 21st century? Shouldn’t Mike Johnson already be in heaven by now?
I understand why people would be upset and fearful receiving death threats. What I don’t understand is young pastor’s lacking faith when even the birds of the air worry not, yet are taken care of. To say nothing of what death means to a believer. Where are the profiles in courage in the ”Christian” community?
