What an amazing intelligent young woman Jane is, how brave of her to tell her story.

Oh Jane, I heard your interview months ago and felt everything the comments above are expressing. But now I feel something very very different. I have just been the victim of a scam. A scam done so well. It was so quick. I could relate to do much of what you said and just overlaid the developmental age you were onto my experience and it was so moving to hear you speak. Thank you for telling your story. I am trying to be brave, and courageous. But it's hard

You may see it that way but cant you see that he ruined people by also stealing emotion and love not just money. He is a destructive sociopath and they operate in such a way that information is power...some of these people were purely affected by him using the information he gained about them , against them. So its not just the monetary investments they made with him.

@Roguequeen : Strange but I'm having no sympathy for Hamish's victims. The con only works when people are greedy.

The spy has the most annoying voice I've ever heard. I wish I'd skipped this episode.

Who the hell is Hamish? Hamish is a psychopath. Quite often you may know one but they'll be hiding in plain sight. If you are a victim (not always criminally but even just emotionally) you'll be left wondering what happened and how you got so far along without seeing the red flags. Trust your instinct. If it feels uncomfortable it probably won't be good in the long run.

This podcast is brilliant. I didn't lose any money but clapped and got teary when he got his sentence. That was the impact the stories told by all of these people had on me.

A well created and carefully considered podcast. Intriguing with a clever mix of fact and emotion.

Hamish was running an out-and-out scam, since he invested nothing, but if anything he ran Ponzi scheme, not—as the writer repeats—a "pyramid scheme".

Wow, what an incredibly articulate and insightful young woman. She is such a superior human being to the person she is recovering from. She has made mistakes, she can take responsibility and will be a compassionate and wise woman moving forward. Such an inspirational episode in this car crash of a story.

This episode just breaks my heart. I just want to scream through the screen: "don't blame yourself 'Jane'". I hope that sharing her story has been cathartic. Many, many, many of us have come across these types of predators. It feels so much worse when you are a child and vulnerable.

Ugh. My heart completely goes out to Jane. She was preyed upon and yet she blames herself for everything. I just want to hug her!

Well, there goes my day... halfway through episode 1 I knew I was hooked! This is story telling at best.

I do feel bad for his wife and the child he took advantage of. He's a real piece of work.

@lweezuk : I agree!! These people were greedy. I feel bad for his ex wives though.

As my grandfather would say "trust no man and paddle your own canoe "

A very emotional Journey here, even for us podcast listeners. Thank you for a great podcast/story and please pass on strength for the "victims" and remember "what happened to you is only what happened to you, not who you are".
