Shoko’s Smile is such a remarkable novel that even Jisoo from BLACKPINK was seen carrying it at the airport. She’s like the Rosé of the Korean literary scene. 🖤💕

Here is a New York Times review of Shoko’s Smile, which describes the book as written “with sober detail, filmic precision and absolute control… an incredibly impressive collection told with realism, seriousness and moral integrity.”

She is also the author of Shoko’s Smile, which was published by Penguin Classics.

I would like to request an interview with Choi Eun-young, one of the most beloved and acclaimed novelists in South Korea. It is difficult to understand why her novel Bright Night has not yet been translated and published in the United States, especially at a time when K-culture is gaining worldwide popularity. She is such a remarkable writer that she may well become a post–Han Kang figure decades from now.
