Laura Donaldson mentioned better success dealing with trauma in dogs by Pendulation and Titration. I only heard this once and understood that she meant putting the behaviours to one side whilst dealing with any stress/pain/ medical stuff and concentrating on helping the horse or dog feel safe. I am an owner rather than trainer and the phrase stuck with me partly because it was unique but I’ve not heard it since. I thought you were both on the precipice of repeating Laura’s words. One vote for Starbucks. That little bit of friction from the chatter in the background makes me listen intently.

I am wondering if you are familiar with Heather Stevens at Centre Barks ?day care and training in Richmond Yorks who is all about “who is this dog” and “what is it’s status”. She wrote Beyond the Breed based on the conclusions of Isla Fishburn analysis of data and hypothesis of wild living wolf families. She assesses the functional character of dogs with proofing of that character by helper dogs of known functional character. Isla Fishburn deciphers litters fc to determine homing needs.

Yes in the boomerang dogs! Once I saw the salary levels paid at national level I had to stop volunteer dog walking at our local RSPCA kennel. Once you see the business model you just can’t support perpetuating a facade to support excess returns to the management teams. I struggled with the dog welfare side of the equation, and sat with the ethics for over a year until I saw even bigger salaries and benefits whilst the staff and volunteers on the ground were putting in their own resources.

Jess those of us who use Puppy culture to guide how we raise our puppies do keep them with the dam for 3 or 4 months and go to their forever homes housetrained, harness ready, mouthing directed onto toys and Manding. We also have the families visit a few times for basic puppy training.
