The series exhibits a meritorious and sincere effort to provide reflections on the Qur'an well-grounded in Islamic literature and traditions that are, nevertheless, provided in an accessible style that can benefit, and be appreciated by, both specialists and laypersons alike. I sincerely hope more lectures to cover much of the Qur'an will be done, by Allah grace, to quench the thirst of those yearning for a richer spiritual life through a deeper engagement and understanding of the book of Allah.

Apart from explaining the potential symbolic allusions of key words and images, and their potential bearing on Muslims' lives, one excellent feature of the series is Dr. Lumbard's tracing and cross-referencing the occurrences of different words and themes throughout the different chapters of the Qur'an -- an indispensable requirement in the pursuit of any attempt for a more holistic understanding of the Qur'an. A commendable and much needed effort! This series serves as a very promising start for filling a deplorable gap in one of the hardly tackled Qur'anic study areas in English and even in Arabic -- namely tadabbur El Qur'an (pondering over the Qur'an). Since such tadabbur is a requirement made incumbent upon Muslims by the Qur'an itself (e.g. 38: 29, 47: 24), these lectures are an invaluable and a rare find for those seeking an engagement with the Qur'an that goes beyond the common exegesis.
