Gordon Lightfoot was hugely influential on me from a very young age. My parents had all his albums, along with Ian & Sylvia. Dad played guitar and Mom piano and they used to play in the evenings harmonizing on the above- mentioned artist’s music (amongst others). When I took up guitar myself, Lightfoot’s songbooks taught me so much. Unlike many artists, Gordon could write down his music and it was a boon to have songbooks by the songwriter who was a guitarist, not a piano player attempting it.
