I think he did premeditate it. Using the work truck was a plan. He set up with his coworker to go to the site the night before because he wanted to be sure he would be there alone. And it's like hiding them in plain site. Like, hey, I just went to work like a normal day, and he knew the oil would break down the bodies fast and hide any evidence of cause of death. If Nicole Atkinson hadn't been so quick to be concerned, he very well could have gotten away with it. He didn't plan for after.

I don't know what interview you listen to, the interview that I listen to Chris said that they woke up possibly because of the noise when he was murdering his wife.

Regarding Kim Kaufman episode. Chris came up with the idea of Shanann killed the kids when the polygraph expert asked if that was happened.
