Ted Thornhill is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Florida Gulf Coast University where he is also the founder and director of the Center for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies
He shares what it is like to be under siege by (and resisting) the Republican-fascist Orwellian assaults on higher education as seen with the “critical race theory” white supremacist moral panic and other attacks on the truth and human decency.
Ted Thornhill also reflects on the personal, professional, and other costs of being a truth-teller – and how and why he endures -- in a moment of white backlash and white rage in the Age of Trump and beyond.
And Ted Thornhill offers some wisdom and hard-earned advice to young black and brown scholars and others who are pondering a career in American higher education as teachers or administrators in a moment of such great crisis with its ascendant fascism and resurgent white supremacy.
Chauncey DeVega reflects on how too many people are being seduced by ghoulish impulses in their reactions to Russia’s war on Ukraine. And Chauncey DeVega is disgusted by all of the supposed “pundits” and assorted armchair experts who are circulating their subpar analyses about the events in Ukraine, and by doing so are doing the American people and the world a great disservice.
And Chauncey sets the record straight about “Hank the Tank” a very handsome and unfairly maligned and slandered bear person who has been accused of breaking into human people’s homes and eating their food.
