In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Robin January from Fayetteville, AR.
Let me tell you about the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network! Besides the freedom of IF, community is what I most want to offer the world. Instead of relying on the big social network most of us have been on for years, we now have a community that is completely separate and just for us.
Members of the DDD Social Network have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories within the DDDSN platform, ad-free! That’s just one reason to join.
Visit dddsocialnetwork.com to see what else we offer in our membership community. An annual membership is $59.95 and you have access to dozens of groups that we created with you in mind. You can join as many groups as you want and connect with members who share your interests. If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for $9.99 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.
IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at dddsocialnetwork.com.
Robin works at a university lab in the Food Science Department. In the summer of 2018, Robin was diagnosed with a torn artery in her neck which resulted in several mini-strokes. She then developed a brain aneurysm. Her doctor immediately ordered her to go on bed rest for the next four months, with the warning “do not gain weight.”
That same summer, Robin's mother had her watch a talk show segment on IF. Robin's response: "IF is a fancy word for starvation."
But as she began to gain weight, Robin decided to give IF a try.
For the first several months, Robin added cream to her coffee, having no knowledge of the clean fast. Robin stumbled upon Delay, Don't Deny, and learned about the clean fast. The transition to the clean fast made the fast easy. Robin eventually moved to a morning eating window. She currently follows 20:4, with a weekly longer fast. She has lost 25 pounds, going from a size 14 to a size 6.
Robin's health has radically improved. Her brain aneurysm has healed. Her psoriasis, which covered her entire body, is now almost gone completely. She also has improved gum health after a 14-year battle with gum disease.
Robin's advice to new IFers: "Find a reason to fast that is completely independent of weight loss. Look for small victories. Be content with health benefits if you're not losing weight at first. Don't be afraid to try things that seem scary."
