Dianne Braley's novel, The Silence in the Sound, has already won a Firebird Book Award. The book is a coming-of-age story set on the picturesque island of Martha's Vineyard, but its premise is about growing up in addiction and the devastating and long-lasting effects.
Actual events inspired the book, as Dianne was the private nurse for William Styron, the Pulitzer-prize-winning author, best known for "Sophie's Choice."
A portion of the book's proceeds go to the Robert F. Kennedy Community Alliance organization and their division that assists children and families affected by addiction in Massachusetts.
