The placing of a statue of the late Nobel Laureate John Hume in the European Parliament is “very very important”. That’s according to Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin along with the President of the European Parliament, will unveil the bronze bust of the late SDLP leader and former MEP later today.
The statue was made by Dublin-based sculptor Liz O’Kane who is originally from Northern Ireland. It’s been donated to the Parliament by the Irish government.
Colm Markey says John Hume’s twenty five years as an MEP, helped him to see the importance of being part of a bigger European family.
