When the time came for God’s people to pass over the Jordan River and take possession of the Promised Land, God instructed them to set up a memorial that would help them remember all the amazing things God had done for them as He brought His promise to fulfillment. In the same way, God instructs us to remember His mighty works in our own lives, so that we can find rest in His faithfulness and encourage future generations to do the same.
