Devi Gita (class 19): ”Her Playful Mood” by Swami Bhajanananda Saraswati

Scripture class on Devi Gita, chapter 1, verse 38-39, given by Rev. Dr. Swami Bhajanananda Saraswati to students of Ramakrishna Seminary via Zoom on 24 August 2022.

मल्लिकामालतीमालाकेशपाविराजिताम् |
काश्मिऋरबिन्दुनिटिलां नेत्रत्रयविलासिनीम् || ३८ ||

mallikā-mālatī-mālā-keśapā-virājitām |
kāśmiṛra-binduni-ṭilāṃ netra-traya-vilāsinīm || 38 ||

38. "A garland of jasmine flowers brightened Her luxuriant hair. Her forehead sported a saffron dot, while Her three eyes reflected Her playful mood."

पाशाण्कुशवराभीतिचतुर्बाहुं त्रिलोचनाम् |
रक्तावस्त्रापरीधानां दाडिमीकुसुमाप्रभाम् || ३९ ||

pāśāṇkuśa-varābhīti-catur-bāhuṃ trilocanām |
raktā-vastrā-parīdhānāṃ dāḍimī-kusumā-prabhām || 39 ||

39. "Three-eyed and four-armed, She held a noose and goad while gesturing Her beneficence and assurance of safety. She was dressed in red and appeared lustrous like blooms of the pomegranate."
