Without a doubt this is one of the biggest stumbling blocks to people’s belief in God. If he’s a good God, if he loves everyone, why on earth is there a hell? It seems to be that God is mean and spiteful, not loving and tender. Further, it seems that God is an exclusive, prejudiced, snob. If he makes the choice of who’s in and who’s out, what’s the point of life? (Calvinism, anyone?) This morning we will see that there is a logical necessity for a ‘place’ such as hell and that it is not incompatible in light of a good God. We may not like the answer, but it doesn’t mean that we can disregard it. Lastly, this places a premium each of us spreading the good news to people far from God.
