The introduction of a common charger for a range of portable electronic devices by the end of 2024 will benefit consumers and the planet.
So says Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune. She was speaking in the European Parliament where MEPs this week overwhelmingly voted for new rules to make USB type-C the common charging standard for small electronic devices by the end of 2024.
The legislation covers mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, e-readers and other portable devices. Laptops will have to be adapted to the requirements 40 months after the law enters into force.
Well Deidre Clune spoke to Karen Coleman (EuroParlRadio) in the European Parliament in Strasbourg shortly after MEPs voted for the new rules.
