I once heard an interview with LA Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda in which the interviewer asked, “Tommy, how do you deal with loss?”
Lasorda’s response blew me away.
“Look,” he said, “We’re going to play 162 games this year and if we’re really good AND really lucky we’re still going to lose about one-third of them. That means one out of every three games, we lose. You simply have to prepare for it and get used to it.”
Prepare to lose and accept it.
Sounds negative but there’s a lot of power in that approach. It allows us to care about each game, interaction, sale, workout--every attempt of any kind, without getting too caught up in each individual outcome.
Learn to give everything your all without allowing it to knock you back when you, like everyone else, lose from time to time...
