Holiness is not a destination, but a lifelong journey. The finished work of Jesus Christ is the starting point for each Christian’s journey, and it is also the reason why each of us can become like him, despite the sin nature that dwells in us. “Holiness” means conformity in thought, word, and deed to the character of God, our Father. It is available for us to achieve this character to a great degree, and we hope this teaching will help you move forward on your own personal path of righteousness.
As we are gripped by our love for God and our desire to please Him, and as we are energized by our Lord Jesus, we CAN follow his example and achieve this godly character to a great degree. “The fear of God” basically means being more concerned with what God thinks than with what anyone else thinks. God wants us to grieve our sins and thus repent of them. The more we realize that all sin is against our Heavenly Father, the more we will desire to eliminate it from our lives.
