Welcome to the first Bombast of the local academic year. I have made this observation before, but it seems timely again now: the show has entered "senior year" territory on the college radio timescale. Which is not to rule out eventual super-senior or "old timer who just won't get out of the way" status; nevertheless it is illustrative. I find myself reminiscing about the "olden days," which are, like, 2013, and thinking of that early time as "innocent" (it so was not).
Facebook's "memory" engine reminded me that this interview happened once upon a time (and thanks to Eric for hosting me, and apologies to him and everyone else for my insistence on appearing in my "deejay persona" and not as the actual me). It got me thinking about the conceptual framework of this program and whether I've strayed from it (I don't think I have, but maybe I'm not the best judge). If I do say so myself--and I do--I think we've been remarkably consistent over the nearly 300 hullabaloos that we have hosted. Listen for yourself--here's Transmission 1 (shoddy sound quality, such was WRFI-ness back then).
It really is, as I say, a special thing to be on the radio. I was talking to my mental health professional last week about the ongoing crisis in my life that is free time; I told her that radio was the last leisure-time activity in my life that I would jettison. "I think it broke my heart," I said, "not to be on the radio. It took me 20 years to notice it, but I realized it when I got back on." This is true.
Thank you, listener(s), for helping me hold my heart together.
