In our on going Genesis series, we have been noticing how the famous account of ‘the fall’ illustrates a deteriorating situation of anxiety, distrust and strife. Perhaps fittingly for Remembrance Sunday, Jamie offers some meditations on the theme of ‘conflict’, linking these to some of the dynamics, and textual details, of ch3:8-15. The enmity between the seed of the woman and that of the snake is seen in a wider symbolic context - the struggle between good and evil; A struggle which, as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn correctly identified, runs through the heart of every human being.
