Thousands of farmers will have to pay at least two thousand four hundred euro (€2400) every year for an environmental permit under new EU proposals. And they could be left waiting for months to get one. That’s according to Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey.
The Midlands North-West MEP says European Commission proposals to update the Industrial Emissions Directive is a bureaucratic nightmare for Irish farmers that will do little to address environmental challenges.
Well Karen Coleman caught up with Colm Markey in the European Parliament in Strasbourg and she first asked him what the Commission was proposing.
