Chuck & Stacey sit down with the Peabody and Emmy award winning creator, writer and producer of the Disney Jr. shows Doc McStuffins and Vampirina, Chris Nee. Chris explains the unique place where the idea for Doc McStuffins came to her and why she is so proud of what the show has been able to accomplish. She talks about her incredible production team that includes casting director, Maria Estrada and a longtime partnership with Brown Bag Studios in Dublin, Ireland. With Doc McStuffins being one of the longest running shows in Disney TV animation history, Chris reflects on why she believes the show resonates with kids and adults. She shares her goals and challenges as a writer and show creator to continually nurture the hope and innocence of childhood through the characters and episodes. Chris describes the process of writing and casting the pilot episode of Doc McStuffins and getting to work with voice over acting icons like Rob Paulsen, Loretta DeVine, Lara Jill Miller, Robbie Rist, Jess Harnell and Laraine Newman. Chris talks about paying careful attention to the kinds of role models she’s creating in her shows and being mindful of diversity in all areas of the production. She remembers some career experiences she had early on and what led her to leave a great gig working for Sesame Street International to follow her ultimate dreams as a writer. As a former producer of the first season of Deadliest Catch while writing for children’s television, Chris offers why she loves being a show runner, creator and writer.
