The end of John chapter 1 tells us how Jesus called the men who became his closest supporters to follow him as disciples – but it teaches that the idea of discipleship was far more involved than we usually think. And realizing what the idea of discipleship meant back then should challenge us to rethink what it means for us to follow Jesus as his disciple today.
